内容简介/ Abstract:

In this talk, the speaker will present insights from two recent academic papers that examine how digital technologies are reshaping consumer behavior and transforming the digital consumption landscape.

The first paper, The Effect of Voice AI on Digital Commerce (Sun, Shi, Liu, and Ghose 2025, Information Systems Research), investigates how voice-based chatbot affects consumer decision-making in digital commerce. Drawing on real-world platform data, the study shows how Voice AI changes the way consumers search for information, interact with digital interfaces, and make purchase decisions. In particular, the paper highlights how voice-enabled technologies can reduce search frictions, increase shopping convenience, and alter consumer pathways in online environments.

The second paper, How Does Pre-Populating Search Bars with Keywords Affect Online Consumer Behavior? A Field Experiment (Sun 2025, Marketing Science), examines a subtle but consequential platform design choice: the pre-population of search bars with suggested keywords. Using evidence from a large-scale field experiment, the study demonstrates how default keyword cues influence consumer search behavior, product discovery, and downstream purchasing outcomes. The findings show that even small interface design interventions can meaningfully shape how consumers articulate demand and navigate digital marketplaces.

主讲人介绍/Biography of the speaker:

Chenshuo Sun is an Associate Professor at Beijing Zhongguancun Academy. His recent research focuses on AI and the digital economy. He received his Ph.D. from New York University and worked at the National University of Singapore as an Assistant Professor. His work has appeared in Management Science, Marketing Science, and Information Systems Research.
