To innovate the cultivation model for FinTech talents, deepen students’ understanding and thinking about FinTech, and strengthen the cooperation between universities and enterprises in the Greater Bay Area in terms of talent cultivation, scientific research, and innovation and entrepreneurship, the 2024 Greater Bay Area (Guangzhou) Digital Finance Frontier Summer Camp was jointly organized by Shenzhen University, Guangdong University of Finance and Economics (GDUFE), and the Guangzhou Digital Finance Association from July 29th to August 2nd. The summer camp received strong support from the Financial Committee Office of the Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the CPC.
On July 29th, the opening ceremony was held in Room 339 of GDUFE. Professor Zhang Kai, Vice President of the university, and Wen Keyin, Deputy Director of the Financial Committee Office of Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the CPC, delivered speeches for the summer camp; Professor Li Yaqing, Deputy Dean of the College of Finance at GDUFE, introduced the preparation and schedule of the summer camp; Jiang Yingxia, Secretary General of the Guangzhou Digital Finance Association, presented the camp flag; The ceremony was attended by more than 40 guests, including Yin Tao (Fourth-Level Researcher of the Financial Committee Office of the Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the CPC), Huang Juan (Business Director of the Guangdong branch of China UnionPay and General Manager of the Guangzhou branch), Zhu Jingxian (Project Director of the Guangzhou Digital Finance Association), Dr. Wang Jiexin from Shenzhen University Institute of FinTech, team leader Zhang Youze, and more than 40 teachers and students from both sides.
The summer camp was led by Dr. Zhang Youze from the College of Finance at GDUFE and Dr. Wang Jiexin from Shenzhen University. They guided students to complete three core modules: digital financial enterprise research, expert lectures from digital finance, and research on digital finance, fostering a journey of learning, practicing and innovating together.
In the module of digital finance enterprise research, the camp participants visited several well-known companies such as China Mobile Guangzhou Branch, Canton Data Exchange, CS Intelligence (Guangdong) Information Technology Co., Ltd., China Post Consumer Finance, JDH Information Technology (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd., CRGBanking Equipment Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Financial Risk Monitoring and Prevention Center, and UnionPay Business Guangdong Branch. They conducted in-depth exchanges on cutting-edge technologies and application scenarios in digital finance, including digital finance infrastructure construction, data trading and circulation, digital inclusive finance, digital supply chain finance, FinTech scenarios and innovations, financial regulatory technology, and financial big data.

In the digital finance expert lecture module, the summer camp invited three experts: Cao Ke, a senior information technology engineer from the Digital Construction Office of CCB Guangdong Branch; Wu Wei, CEO of Qumi Network; and Qi Xianwei, CEO of Guangdong Zhongke Intelligent Blockchain Technology Co., Ltd. They delivered their views under the themes of “FinTech and the Digital Transformation of the Financial Industry,” “User Experience Driven - The Upgrade Path of Traditional Financial Institutions,” and “Data Element Circulation and Data Asset Evaluation in the Digital Economy.” Then, they engaged in lively discussions with the students.

In the digital finance research module, the summer camp launched a research topic on “How FinTech Empowers High-Quality Development in Financial Industry” at the beginning. Students formed groups to select one of the visited institutions as their target and study how it utilizes FinTech to address the pain points of traditional finance and empower high-quality development in the industry.
In the packed schedule of the summer camp, students made full use of their time to study group projects. On the evening of August 1st, they gathered to report on the interim results of their research. They showcased various representative FinTech solutions and business models from the companies visited, including how the Guangzhou Data Exchange promotes data assetization and the circulation of data elements, the intelligent innovation bank of GRGBanking Equipment Co.,Ltd., the super SIM card from China Mobile FinTech, the efficient and secure cross-border trade settlement platform from Zhongke Huizhi, the financial instrument business of TCL Simple Exchange, the IoT technology of UnionPay Business, and the Internet+ humanized loam repayment system of China Post Consumer Finance. Director Zhu Jingxian and Dean Hu Xiaoyan from the Guangzhou Digital Finance Association, as special guests, provided insightful comments on the students’ group presentations.
On August 2nd, the closing ceremony was held at UnionPay Business Guangdong Branch. Dr. Zhang Youze summarized the activities, and student representatives from Shenzhen University and GDUFE shared their insights and gains during the camp. By visiting well-known companies to understand the development of digital finance and consulting industry experts for learning, they expressed that the activities not only deepened their understanding of financial technology but also profoundly made them feel the tremendous energy that digital finance empowers the development of the real economy.

The hosting of this summer camp will further enhance exchange between universities and enterprises. Furthermore, Shenzhen University and GDUFE will also strengthen cooperation to promote the in-depth development of FinTech education and research, cultivating more digital finance talents with innovative spirit and practical skills for the Greater Bay Area and the FinTech industry, thereby jointly promoting the progress and prosperity of the digital finance industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and across the country.
