On the afternoon of June 28th, the 2023 graduation ceremony for the undergraduate and postgraduate students with the theme of “On the ‘Fin’ day, we set sail afar, with thoughts and gratitude” of Shenzhen University WeBank Institute of FinTech (SWIFT) was launched. Wang Yongcheng, as the member of the Standing Committee of the Party and Vice President of Shenzhen University, Yang Qiang, as the Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer of WeBank, Zhang Kai, as the Dean of the Shenzhen University WeBank Institute of FinTech (SWIFT), Liu Haishan, as the Party Secretary, Yin Xiaoyong, as the full-time Vice Dean of the Institute, as well as Gu Wei and Ge Rui, as the Vice Dean, and Lou Zhuonan, as the Deputy Party Secretary of our institute, attended the graduation ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Gu Wei.

Ge Rui introduced the situation of the 2023 graduates of our institute. In this year, our institute had a total of 56 bachelor graduates, of which 33 have obtained dual bachelor’s degrees in economics and engineering, and 2 have been awarded honorary bachelor’s degrees; 24 students continued their studies and were admitted as master’s students by domestic and foreign universities and research institutions, including Peking University, Fudan University, Sun Yat-sen University, National University of Singapore, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, etc., with a admission rate of 42.9%; Graduates have signed contracts with well-known companies such as Huawei, China Securities Depository and Clearing (CSDC), China Merchants Securities (CMS), Everbright Securities (EBS), and PingAn Bank, achieving high-quality employment. At the same time, under the careful cultivation of academic mentors, this year’s graduate students have achieved both moral and professional development, and all 6 master’s graduates have successfully obtained their degrees. Currently, the employment rate has exceeded 83%, with employment destinations including major banks, universities, as well as selected and transferred civil servants.

Zhang Kai delivered a passionate and wonderful speech to the graduates with the title of “Setting Sail at the Midstream”. He reviewed the story of “establishing the original intention in Liyuan, gathering talents, pursuing science, and exploring the sea of FinTech”. And he proposed that as pioneers and open education demonstrations in the field of FinTech in domestic universities, people in the Shenzhen University WeBank Institute of FinTech (SWIFT) should adapt to the tremendous changes of the times, be in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and be based in Shenzhen, the forefront of FinTech. We shall commit to deepening talent cultivation, discipline construction, scientific research innovation, and social services in the field of FinTech. Many touching and beautiful dreaming realization moments in the Shenzhen University WeBank Institute of FinTech (SWIFT) of the Liyuan have been frozen in the history of FinTech development in the Greater Bay Area. He looked forward to the beautiful future of “pursuing dreams in the Greater Bay Area, FinTech for goodness, and making contributions to the New Era”. He hoped that students could continue to maintain the same reverence and self-discipline in their hearts in the vast journey of FinTech’s stars and oceans in the future, with fear in their hearts, caution in their words, and restraint in their actions. They should strive for excellence, be brave enough to pursue their dreams, and contribute to the construction of a strong financial country in the New Era. He wished students to “start from Liyuan, forge ahead, and achieve greater success in the future”, and called on them to strive to practice the concept of “finance for pioneer, technology for goodness” as a FinTech person at Shenzhen University; And he wished students to strive to become a great craftsman in the field of FinTech, and become a national valuable “hard core talent” in the financial field, helping to build a strong FinTech country and standing tall in the world.

Yang Qiang expressed in his speech that every time he participated in such a grand event, he was extremely excited because he couldn’t help but think of his time studying at Peking University in the early 1980s. Although decades have passed, the four years of learning, life, and struggle experience were unforgettable. Yang Qiang said that for the students present, these four years were very short compared to the time they would experience in the future, but memories would always be fresh and indelible, and this experience would continue to inspire students to move forward. If every graduate was likened to a “large-scale model”, the next task for students would be to undergo lifelong fine-tuning and improvement. He hoped that students could become professional “large-scale model” in various industries, better play their role, and become the main force of construction and innovative talents in different fields.

He Zirong, a representative of outstanding bachelor graduates, shared his learning gains at the meeting. He said that with the strong support of the institute and WeBank, they enjoyed characteristic training programs such as dual degree, bilingual teaching, and dual scholarship programs. In terms of theoretical knowledge, their course covered core professional modules such as economics, finance, management, and computer science; In terms of innovative practice, they could have face-to-face exchanges with industry experts from WeBank at the forefront of FinTech applications and FinTech practice courses. Through professional courses and practical experience, they not only gained a deep understanding of the basic principles and operational mechanisms of the financial industry, but also learned about the application of computer technology in the financial field. This has equipped them with rich interdisciplinary literacy, not only understanding financial business, but also being able to flexibly apply computer technology for analysis and modeling. Finally, on behalf of the bachelor graduates from the FinTech Experimental Class of 2019, he extended his sincerest gratitude to the institute and teachers, and sincerely wished the university, institute, and WeBank a prosperous development.
