In order to enhance the scientific research atmosphere, Shenzhen University FinTech Institute continues to hold the serial academic lectures. On the morning of October 9, 2023, the institute invited Professor Chen Yangyang from City University of Hong Kong to give an academic lecture. The lecture was hosted by Associate Dean Ge Rui from Shenzhen University FinTech Institute.
In the lecture, Professor Chen Yangyang introduced his recent research achievements. Through research, it has been found that after the enhanced enforcement of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) that likely affected non-US firms more, US firms increase their investments in bribery-prone countries, consistent with the enforcement giving US firms a competitive edge. This increase is more concentrated in regions where US firms likely adapted more to the FCPA before the enforcement or where the FCPA was expected to deter foreign competitors more after the enforcement. Further analyses document that enhanced FCPA enforcement enables US firms to better respond to investment opportunities and gain larger market shares in bribery-prone countries, thus improving their operating performance.
After the lecture, Professor Chen Yangyang also had a thorough communication with the faculty members and students of FinTech Institute. The academic atmosphere on site was enthusiastic.
