On the 40thanniversary of the founding of Shenzhen University, the Shenzhen Audencia Financial Technology Institute (SAFTI) admitted its Class of 2023 in September. To further strengthen the patriotic education and class culture at the SAFTI, create an open and vibrant campus culture, diversify extracurricular activities, enhance team collaboration and cohesion, and help new students enjoy the college experience, the SAFTI organized an outdoor team-building activity for the newly admitted Class of 2023 -- an experience trip to Dapeng Beach in mid-to-early December.
The first stop: Guangdong Memorial Hall of East River Column
The warm sunshine in December brought more hope to everyone. The students gathered at the front gate of the SAFTI at 8:40 a.m. Led by the faculty members and the tour guide, all students took the bus to the Guangdong Memorial Hall of East River Column in Pingshan District, a patriotic education base.
With the explanation of the docent at the Memorial Hall, the students obtained a deep understanding of the great achievements made by the revolutionary martyrs in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. Through the visit, everyone understood the arduous journey the Communist Party of China traveled in the war of resistance against Japanese aggression. The visit enabled everyone to know that with great perseverance during those difficult years, countless heroes had made great efforts for the independence and dignity of the Chinese nation. The visit not only fostered the students’ patriotism and sense of responsibility, but also enabled them to gain a deeper understanding of history, develop their thinking abilities, and enhance their cultural confidence and national consciousness.
The second stop: Cycling on the Judiaosha Beach
“Feel the sea breeze and enjoy the moment.”
After a spectacular seafood dinner, the students went to the beach to enjoy cycling in the refreshing environment. The students helped each other in cycling on tough terrains and in difficult road conditions, demonstrating excellent teamwork skills and the courage and wisdom to overcome difficulties. Under the blue sky and in the sunshine, cycling while feeling the sea breeze enabled the students to feel the beauty of nature, release physical and mental stress, and enjoy team travel and collaboration, making the small team of the SAFTI more united and dynamic.
The third stop: Frisbee game
After the pleasant cycling on the beach, the students went to the outdoor team-building base. A series of ice-breaking games brought the students closer to each other and laid a solid foundation for the frisbee games. The frisbee games were held in group competitions. Each competition was in full swing with all teams running neck by neck. One team won the championship trophy, and the team members opened a bottle of champagne to celebrate the hard-won victory together. All freshmen displayed excellent stamina and vigorous vitality in frisbee games which enhanced the students’ hand-eye coordination and strategic thinking, improved their reaction speed and body coordination, enabled them to enjoy outdoor sports, strengthened their confidence and teamwork ability, and cultivated their collective sense of honor and “can-do” spirit.
The fourth stop: “Cape of Good Hope” seaside self-service barbeque
After the exciting frisbee games, everyone went to the beautiful “Cape of Good Hope” Self-Service BBQ Camp and enjoyed their barbeque dinner with mild sea breeze and laughter while watching the breathtaking sunset. During the self-service barbecue, the students not only had the pleasure of preparing their food but also relaxed physically and mentally in a wonderful mood. Everyone sang and laughed together, which beefed up their sense of belonging and teamwork.
Students’ reflection on the team-building experience
“We visited the Guangdong Memorial Hall of East River Column, rode bikes on the beach, collaborated with our partners in the frisbee games, and ended the wonderful day with a barbecue on the beach. Every activity fully demonstrated our teamwork spirit and ability. We trusted and supported each other in addressing every challenge. This is just like life which is full of challenges and possibilities. What we need is courage, enthusiasm, and creativity to better fit in the group. This team-building experience is not only an unforgettable memory for me but also a guide for me in my future studies and day-to-day life!”
